Written in the 80s, but dusted off and read out at my daughter's wedding, thirty years later.

Marriage is like a family car

Marriage is like

a family car

Oil it well

and you'll go far

But if your road is bumpy

and full of tension

You'll wear down the tires

and break the suspension

Clean your headlamps each night

don't leave a mark

So when you suffer hard times

you can still see in through dark

Stay kind with each other

then as a reward

You might just welcome

little passengers on board

Use as your fuel

love from the soul

Then you'll be harmonious

in duel control

But if you fill your tank

with disagreement and panic

sooner or later

you'll need a mechanic
